Gothic Photography

Over the years, the term gothic has expanded from Architecture to literature , more recently the term gothic has been linked to photography, here are a few photographs which contain gothic elements and therefore fall into the gothic category.

The photograph known as Akirahin tends to incorporate the gothic style and fashion together. The photograph is also shot into black and white in order to make the image appear more gothic, I feel the photograph being shot in black and whit helps to complete the gothic image.












The next photographer which falls into the gothic photography category which I analysed was the photograph titled 'gothic by Rivas' I feel the main element in this photograph which can be portrayed as gothic is the hairstyling and makeup The makeup in this image I feel has been edited also In order for it to appear most noticeable to an audience.









The next photograph which falls into the gothic category is titled ' wanna play'. The title first of all appears quite unsettling to an audience which therefore makes the photograph appear as gothic. The location and the two character wearing black clothing are also why the photograph is considered gothic. The people holding up the masks add an element of mystery as well as an unsettling feeling to the photograph which also therefore adds a gothic style to the photograph.





                


This photograph titled ' Dreams' almost appears as a painting and can also be considered as gothic photography due to the mystery behind it for example, the swarm of flying birds, the fall moon in the darkness and the unusual floating lady with long dark hair in a long dark gown .

Another photograph which I found interesting and obviously falls into the gothic photography is the photography titled ' stunning architecture'. It is known that architecture is where the term gothic originally came from in order to describe something gloomy. The style of building therefore is quite old fashion and gothic . I feel the photograph is complete with a stormy sky in order to make the photograph appear more gothic.

The photograph titled ' rural' I feel appears quite gothic due to the gloomy weather and the abandoned and broken house which gives the audience and unsettling feeling. The gothic motif which I feel best describes this image is uncanny, which means something that is strange or eerie in an unsettling way.






The last photograph which I chose to analyse as to why it falls into the gothic horror category is the photograph titled ' Mr Confidence and Mrs Deficit' This photograph I feel is stereotypically gothic in terms of the scary skeleton make accompanied with the long dark clothing and accessories .
