Mrs Laderman

Mrs Laderman

As part of my second project I had to create two characters for a chosen TV series. I chose American horror story season four the freak show. The two characters I was able to chose from to recreate already had character briefs written for them my project was to link the characters into the American horror story. The character I chose to recreate was Mrs Laderman.

Character brief

Mrs Laderman is Claudia's neighbour who changes into many alter egos, she s a women who is in her Mid forties and is Claudia's friend and only real link to the outside world. Mrs Laderman is also under the suspicion that she has Designs on Claudia and her imaginary boyfriend Quentin.

Story line

After following in the footsteps of sister Elsa
Mrs Laderman decides to take control becoming  the new ring leader of her very own freak show seeking revenge after Modrake reincarnated Elsa as a freak , she  may seem like a middle age female Fetale women but turns evil seeking for those who having interests in the supernatural and horror and turns them into exhibits for her own show.
Before creating my Mrs Laderman design I decided to create a brainstorm listing all my ideas and elements which I could incorporate into my final Mrs Laderman idea.

Here is a photograph of my final face chart for my Mrs Laderman character. After being unhappy with my first attempt in terms of the makeup being unsymmetrical and messy under the eyes I decided to make a few changes.

In order to create my face chart I firstly highlighted the convex areas of the face using caraway a light brown eye shadow from my kryolan pallet. Then I applied a dark pink from the same pallet to the cheekbones which I extended up to the temples . I also applied the same colour underneath the eyes . I used a white from my Kryolan eye shadow pallet to act as a highlighter and to also separate the pinks applied to the cheekbones and underneath the eyes. I then applied a dark purple from the same pallet to the eye sockets and the white to the eyelids and under the brows. Using my rounded blended and brown from my kryolan pallet I create soft eyebrows on my face chart. Finally to complete the eye application I used a fine liner brush and my black supracolour to draw to thin lines above and below the eyes. finally to complete my look I mixed red and black supracolour together and applied this colour to the lips.

I was happy with the outcome of my final face chart I felt the pink and the black contrasted well, the face chart looked overall quite neat in terms of the line work and the colours I feel were blended in well.

Here is a photograph of my final hair chart, although it is slightly unclear due to the template lines being quite thick and dark I have decided to style the hair into a side parting with the fringe slightly raised off the forehead, the hair will then be styled into curls.

Here is a facial shot photograph of my Mrs Laderman look, I was generally quite happy with the outcome of my character styling I felt the makeup looked much better in comparison to my first design

In order to create this look I firstly applied a kryolan foundation to the face and then used a pink from my eye shadow pallet to the cheekbones which I extended up to the temples, I also applied the same colour to underneath the eyes in order to separate the colours I applied a white also to underneath the eyes and to the lighter areas of the face to act as a highlighter. Next I used my rounded blended brush to blended dark purple into the eye socket I also applied a white to underneath the eyebrows and the eyelids. I then used my fine liner brush and black supracolour to create two thin lines and above and below the eyes and also the eyeliner over the arch of the eyelid. Finally to complete my look I applied a black and red lipstick mixed together by mac to the lips.

In term of the hair in order to create my look I firstly created a side parting using my pin tail comb and then began curling the hair using the gothic inspired Victorian hair lesson technique I learnt in order to curl the hair, I then applied backcombing to the hair to make the fringe raise slightly off the forehead.

I decided to style my model in a black corset with a black necklace in order to highlight the circus element from the American horror story freak show and also Burlesque which I was advised to research into after presenting my ideas as a PowerPoint.

I was much happier with the outcome of my design in comparison to my first attempt  I feel the styling overall works much better and relates to my chosen TV series
