Quentin
After I presented my power point presentation , my lecturer Sharon told me to research more in to my final designs for my character, she explained researching and analysing dolls and as well as freak shows and American horror will help me with my final design and also to stay away from the stereotypical puppet design for my character. My chosen TV series for my character was the American horror story freak show, therefore I want my hair and makeup design to have the circus theme incorporated into the characters look, meaning the hair and makeup will resemble a clown/ puppet, as well as included an element of horror.

The Joker character from the Batman the dark knight rises, played by Heath ledger I found inspirational for my Quentin character in terms of the makeup . In my American horror freak show story line, created character Quentin is to be known as the 'human puppet' the look I therefore wanted to created was a fun style of makeup which also appeared as scary. The joker in this film, resembles a clown, I like how the mouth is over exaggerated and the dark eye makeup, the worn off imperfect white paint I feel completes the look as well as adding an element of horror making the character look a little crazy.
after analysing the joker style of makeup, I am considering incorporating the similar over exaggerated mouth in my work perhaps with stitches added into the design, to highlight my character being trapped. I also like the idea of the dark makeup around the eyes however I am taking into consideration ways to make the eyes appear bigger in order to make my character look more like a puppet.

The clown from the American horror story season four the freak show I consider as an inspiration towards my Quentin ideas, the clown character was the main reason why I selected this as my chosen horror series to design makeup for. I like how the makeup around the mouth has been designed, the over exaggerated mouth makes the makeup appear much more scary, as well as the contrast between the pale complexion and dark eye makeup. When creating my Quentin makeup I am going to take into horror makeup such as this in order to think of an idea outside the box.

The main focus of my Quentin character is the mouth makeup application, after taking into consideration the Jokers style of makeup I wanted to incorporated the over exaggerated smile which appear much more life like and released. By the style of makeup being situated as a smile I feel this will fit in more with my chosen horror series as well as make my character appear as a human puppet, due to all features on a puppet being fantasied and over exaggerated, almost like a cartoon. In order to develop on the mouth style of makeup I feel stitches situated overtop of the mouth as if it is sewn together will portray my character being trapped as well as completing the look.

Here is a style of horror makeup where the mouth is stitched together, I feel incorporating this style into the previous picture will complete my Quentin character makeup. In this design I like how the stiches are situated and how the blood completes the look .

Although this style of makeup is on women model and has the stereotypical lines situated from the mouth to the jawline, I really like the contrast in colours and the style of eye makeup. I feel the style of makeup portrays the circus theme and would be suitable for my chosen horror series, When creating Quentin's style of makeup, I am going to use is as an inspiration in terms of colour scheme and eye makeup.

I really like the use of the SFX zipper brain/exposed brain idea, i am considering incorporating it perhaps into my work as it portrays my character Quentin being controlled therefore conveying to the audience the reason behind my character being a known as the human puppet. The only thing i am worried about by incorporating this idea into my work is it not looking very realistic and also looking a little too over the top.

Due to shooting my character in my own time, I have decided to shoot on location, i am taking into consideration shooting my design in a dark room. My character will have rope tied around his wrists in order to convey the meaning of human puppet. therefore in my design i am going to include rope burns makeup into my design .

After researching into 1950s male hairstyles the hair appears as a side parting sleeked to the side with a gel with the fringe pushed back of the face. This style of hair I feel would work well with the human puppet character look due to puppets being generally quite polished and tidy. I also wanted keep the hair quite simple and for the makeup to be the main focus.

After researching analysing images of 1950s fashion, some men were seen in suits or trousers wit checkered blazers and a shirt sometimes accompanied by style of hat. Here is an image which I found as an inspiration for my Quentin character, i like the idea of the shirt and the waistcoat I feel even though its a 1950s style it also gives it a modern twist . My overall outcome is for my characters fashion and hairstyle to be very 1950s, a polished look, with a rough around the edges approach incorporated into the makeup, in order to create the gothic motif ' the uncanny'
